Is your Church, Mosque, or Community Center interested in closing a street for social activities? The city has just opened the applications for street closure permits.
NYC’s Open Streets program allows communities to embrace new public space. OpenStreets prioritize pedestrians and cyclists by transforming streets into public space. These transformations allow for a range of activities, support local businesses, and create opportunities for New Yorkers to gather together safely. The 2021 Open Streets application is now live!
·In 2021, both new and returning partners must apply to manage an Open Street in their community
The Open Streets program will now replace the Weekend Walks and Seasonal Streets program(s)
Visit nyc.gov/openstreets for more information about the program and to submit an application
A webinar is scheduled for Wednesday March 31st at 12pm to go over the application process and answer any questions. Register in advance using this https://zoom.us/meeting/register/tJcocOGtpzMrE9XLCCxllr-PZb7PgcF1bu3P
Temporary Full Closures allow for a range of car-free activities that support local businesses and create a safe place for New Yorkers to gather. These Open Streets support multiple uses, including outdoor dining, retail and service, and community programming.
No vehicle access and no parking allowed when Temporary Full Closures are in effect. A 15 foot emergency lane must be clear at all times, for emergency vehicle access.
Please share with your friends, family and network or anyone interested in applying for a street closure event.
