A REMINDER THAT THIS PROGRAM IS STILL ON-GOING. SEE THE LINK/FLYER FOR THE AGENCY NEAR YOU.
The New York Developers Association, a group of New York Housing developers, have come together to assist New Yorkers who are facing evictions due to rent arrears. These developers have raised some money, and distributed to some Community Based Organizations throughout the city to distribute.
The Program, called Funds And Services For Tenants Experiencing Need (FASTEN) is being administered by seven Homebase providers throughout New York City, including BronxWorks, Catholic Charities, CAMBA, HELP USA and RiseBoro, as well as Services for the Underserved (S;US).
Because each individual situation is different, applicants will be assessed based on their needs and if they qualify, their back rent will be paid, often directly to the landlords. However, Scott Auwarter, Assistant Executive Director of BronxWorks, stated that, "Community members should not worry if they do not qualify for this particular program. All these organizations have different programs to assist New Yorkers, and they will most likely find a program that most people will qualify for. The important thing is for them to come in, and speak to some of the housing specialists.". The flyer lists some of the services that these agencies provide.
You may call 311 and ask for HomeBase providers in your neighborhood, or go to www.nyc.gov/site/hra/help/homebase-locations.page just visit any of the organizations listed earlier. This is a limited time program, and its on a first come first served basis, or until the money is exhausted.
