In an announcement just made by Mayor Bill De Blasio, New York City Public Schools will not be reopening on Monday, as initially scheduled.
The Mayor acknowledged that the system had still not fully overcome the many obstacles it faced in bringing children back during this pandemic. Instead, there will be a phase in reopening.
Under this new plan, K to 8th grade schools will begin In-Person classes on September 29, 2020 while Middle, High and Adult Education students will return on October 1, 2020. All other students will begin the school year remotely on Monday September 21, 2020.
